Capabilities
- Identifies which funds hold a specific security. Fund types include open-end funds, ETFs, closed-end funds, CITs, separate accounts, and models.
- Ranks funds by the percentage of the security's outstanding shares they own.
- Returns up to 500 funds in a single query, for a broad or narrow view of the ownership landscape.
- Sorts results by concentration, highest ownership share first, to surface the most committed holders.
Limitations
- Coverage is limited to security types supported by the Morningstar MCP Server.
- Ownership data reflects the most recent portfolio filings, which can lag by 30 to 90 days depending on the fund's reporting frequency.
- Does not surface ownership by individual investors, hedge funds with delayed 13F filings, or direct indexing accounts.
- No built-in historical trending. You cannot directly query who owned a security six months ago without cross-referencing prior data pulls.
