Skills are pre-built workflows that run on top of the Morningstar MCP Server. They guide your AI client through repeatable investment research and fund analysis tasks, use live Morningstar data, produce consistently formatted output, and include guardrails against inferred data.

Skills come with the Morningstar Plugin. If you set up the server manually, you get the tools but not the skills.

Use a Skill

Once the plugin is loaded, you can use a skill in two ways:

  • Pick a skill. Type / and select the skill you want.
  • Ask in plain language. Make a natural-language request, such as "Compare these two funds," and your client selects the relevant skill automatically.
