Investment Details Feed API

Get detailed profile data for up to 250 investments in a single request, drawing on Morningstar's fundamental, reference, and historical data..

About

Loading or refreshing detailed investment data across a large universe means moving far more volume than a single real-time lookup can handle efficiently. The API serves backend systems, analytics platforms, and automated reporting tools by accepting a Feed of up to 250 investments and up to 3 views, processing the request asynchronously, and returning the full result set once it's ready — well suited to scheduled loads rather than on-demand page rendering.

Common Use Cases

  • Build and refresh an internal database Feed-load or refresh detailed data for a large investment universe on a schedule, rather than one investment at a time.
  • Power automated financial reporting Generate reports across a fund range or client universe from a consistent, bulk-loaded dataset.
  • Feed analytics and quant platforms Bulk-load fundamentals, ownership, and ratings data for screening, modeling, or backtesting pipelines.
  • Refresh only what's changed Use delta dates to identify which investments and views have new data before requesting a full reload.

Capabilities

  • Feed requests across up to 250 investments Identified by performance ID, ISIN, CUSIP, trading symbol, or other supported identifiers, resolved in a single job.
  • Up to 3 views per request Combine package or dataset views for equities and managed investments; equities financials data is limited to a single view. Full portfolio holdings views must be requested on their own, not combined with other views.
  • Asynchronous job processing Submit a request and receive an HTTP 202 response with a job ID and hypermedia links for polling status and retrieving results once processing completes.
  • Custom time series ranges Specify a start and end date for time series data points, with up to 60 months of history per request for both financials and non-financials data.
  • Language, country, and region controls Set languageId, countryId, and regionId to resolve language-, country-, and region-dependent data points consistently across the Feed.
  • Delta-aware refreshes Retrieve the dates on which data changed within a delta window, currently for the equity financials view, so scheduled jobs can refresh only what's actually new.
  • Document retrieval Fetch an individual filed document by performance ID, document type, and document ID, for investments returned in a Feed.

Limits

  • 250 investments per request Larger universes must be split into Feedes of 250 and the results merged.
  • Equities: non-financials data Up to 250 investments, up to 3 views, and up to 60 months of time series data per request.
  • Equities: financials data Up to 250 investments and a single view (the financials package view) only, with up to 60 months of time series data per request.
  • Managed investments Up to 250 investments and up to 3 package views per request.
  • Portfolio holdings views full-look-through-portfolio-holdings and full-portfolio-holdings-month-end-or-quarter-end-most-recent must each be the only view in the request; they cannot be combined with other views or with each other.
  • Data access at package level Unlike the synchronous API, Feed requests retrieve data at package level rather than individual dataset level.
  • Identifiers Use the Universe API to retrieve the Morningstar Performance IDs for the investments in your entitled universe.
  • Token lifetime Access tokens last 60 minutes, so long-running jobs must refresh tokens and retry requests that return 401 Unauthorized.
