Investment Details Feed API

Get detailed profile data for up to 250 investments in a single request, drawing on Morningstar's fundamental, reference, and historical data..

Getting Started

The Investment Details Feed API returns data for the investments in your entitled universe. This guide covers the workflow for making your first call and where to go when something goes wrong.

Workflow

1

The API uses OAuth 2.0 to authenticate users. Before you can call any endpoint, you must authenticate your account and get an access token.

See the Authentication article for information about obtaining and using access tokens. ::

1

The API uses Morningstar Performance IDs as the primary identifier. Use the Universe API to retrieve the performance IDs for the investments in your entitled universe.

For more information about the identifiers the API supports, see the Identifiers article. ::

1

Use a view ID to choose which data the API returns. Each view is a predefined set of data points, such as pricing, fees, or risk, so you can request only what you need in a single call.

The API includes an endpoint that returns the view IDs your account is entitled to use. See the Views section for more information about views and how to call the endpoint. ::

1

Use the Investment Details endpoint to retrieve data for one or more investments. Send a request with your performance IDs and view ID. See the Investment Details section for guidance on creating requests.

Most packages need nothing beyond these steps. A few accept additional inputs, apply their own limits, or rely on a related utility that other packages don't need. Check the Package-Specific Guides section to see whether your package has additional requirements. ::

1

Delta requests return only the data that has changed, so you don't need to reload your full universe each time. See the Delta Loads section for guidance on requesting deltas. ::

Steps 1 through 3 are one-time setup, though you will repeat steps 2 and 3 if your entitlements change.
